Matty Healy of the 1975 'explains' his racism

Dec 04, 2024 16:58

A somewhat follow-up to this post.

Adding to his day of bad, racist, and threatening tweets, Matty Healy explains to Twitter users why he has been racist in the past in response to someone agreeing with his tweets to Azealia Banks.

For context: earlier this year, Matty Healy made comments on the podcast The Adam Friedland Show about watching Ghetto Gaggers - a violent and racist porn website. He then made racist comments about Ice Spice. He has also, on stage, done a Nazi salute whilst mentioning Kanye West. He was called out on this racist behaviour by Rina Sawaywama.

He now claims this was 'a hack bit' and regrets doing it. He says it was the result of the essay Dirtbag and not taking his meds.

Is see this a lot and I’m genuinely curious if you would mind expanding on what you mean. Like obvs yes I made a tasteless porn joke on my mates podcast and I have done some things I would take back, like we all have. I’m just trying to keep learning. Could you give example? ❤️

Yeah I understand that. I was really inspired by the essay ‘Dirtbag’ at the time and found NY very interesting. I’m not gonna say Adam and Nick aren’t my friends tho cos they are and I love them a lot. No excuses. I cant just stop taking my meds when I choose. I’ve learned that

Yeah I regret doing a nazi salute during love it if we made it. I mean I get the point - but that’s just a hack bit. Regret the porn website I referenced in the podcast cos it was just a silly name I’d heard - I wasn’t are it was affiliated with violence. The rest is just life ❤️
