Idc if she's a nepo baby, she fucking killed it on this last season of Hacks. She's been good every season, but Jean Smart is incredible, so I think it'd be easy for the person playing Ava to not measure up by comparison. Thankfully not the case!

she really grew into the role. the difference between s1 and s3 is significant. i’m glad to see it because it’s one of my favorite shows in a long time.

Yeah, I think she always held her ground around Jean, and their chemistry is off-charts. The casting for the show is great but those two were a particularly inspired choice.

Einbinder was great this past season of Hacks, but she got to learn on the job whereas people without her connections can't even get an audition. That's the problem with nepotism.

It’s sad how many talented people are out there but don’t have the connections/money. We all know someone. I worked at an acting/filmmaking “camp” and it was crazy how many talented people we saw. I remember two people did a Good Will Hunting scene and brought ALL of us to tears. A teenage girl gave so much through her just staring at the camera and I’m like “where are they now??” Could have been their choice but just like the school I went to, the camp was mixed with nepos and people whose families used all their money and they just never had an opp.

Connections and/or parents to support them through education, networking, auditions, etc. Not just for acting though - I know of a now bestselling YA/romantasy author (I won't name names, it's not a rare situation at ALL) with parents who paid for them to survive while they wrote full time, went to conferences, and tried to find an agent for a few years and then hit the jackpot through connections made at their fancy private university. Their books aren't good, they just wrote specifically for the market until they got lucky.

Well. What a bummer. Hannah is cool and all but in this day and age when it comes to supporting nepo kids I gotta stick to my guns. She'll be fine without me

She wasn’t that good in Hacks - especially up against someone like Jean Smart. Jean was doing most of the lifting in that show; Hannah seemed like she wandered off the set of one of those shows where 20-somethings hang out in one big group and all date each other.

Unpopular opinion, but Hacks is overrated. Take Jean Smart out and the writing is mediocre and not really that funny for a show about a comedian and a comic writer.

I feel like that’s kinda the point of her character?

Hmmm. So like a January Jones in Mad Men situation, where Betty is supposed to be wooden and have no inflection so it perfectly suited her “acting” style?

To be honest, I didn’t bother with S3 and i barely remember S1 and 2, but I feel like Hannah’s character was supposed to be some kind of comic wunderkind and that was why Jean’s character hired her? I dunno, maybe I’m being unfair - anyone next to Jean is gonna seem less than. She wasn’t terrible in it, she (and the show) were just meh to me.
