I was made aware that the winners are picked by 5-person juries but whatever. A win's a win!

I wanted to see A Different Man during its limited run but wasn't able to, but I'm sure I'll be able to soon.

Happy for the Sing Sing wins. And Nickel Boys. Also for No Other Land, and it's shameful that it still doesn't have US distribution

Anora is losing steam, i never really believed the front runner narrative anyway

I saw Anora and was surprised this was the Cannes winner and considered front-runner for BP. It’s not a bad film but it def doesn’t live up to some of the hype imo.

I think it’ll depend on what the public reaction to the Brutalist is. I think there are some issues people have with it in terms of its length and dragging in the last act. Wicked has a really good shot, but I think Nickel Boys may end up winning. I’m dying to see it. Or Sing Sing if they push the rerelease. I still really don’t get A24’s strategy with that one.

Nosferatu is getting a ton of early praise and hype. Not what the academy goes for, but Eggers has an overdue narrative.

I loved Anora though, but I think it needed to be more of a sleeper hit to maintain its momentum.

People have been saying it’s a weak year, but I feel like there’s been so many good movies just not a lot of good “hit” movies. It’s gonna be a fun awards season IMO.

It was always a weak frontrunner. It's giving Boyhood and I can see Sing Sing being its Birdman.

A Different Man was in and out of theatres so fast here. I hope it comes back. I could watch it at home but I prefer the theatre experience.

vulture posted something like “everyone’s a winner at the gothams because losing one doesn’t matter” and it made me laugh. with that said, i’m glad they didn’t go with all the expected winners (though i do think clarence maclin could go all the way) and a different man surprising was a really fun twist.

a24 really bit off more than they can chew awards-wise this year. i’m sure they’ll still do pretty well with sing sing and the brutalist, but they’re juggling so many films.
