PCOS and endometriosis are so normalised - even the women who have them get to the point where they are just matter of fact about it because they’ve just been expected to live with it. They both have debilitating effects on so many women but the medical community (largely) is like “We’ve tried nothing and we’re all out of ideas” .

My *favorite* was having a fit doctor who had PCOS. Her symptoms were very mild from what she shared with me. So, she decided that I just ~wasn’t working hard enough~ and that’s why I couldn’t lose weight. Not the fact that PCOS literally fucks with my insulin resistance, causes extremely heavy periods that kept me from being active a good chunk of the time, etc.

I dropped her so fucking fast. She’s literally an anomaly in our world yet acted that way to someone begging for relief and answers.

i TOOOOOTALLY feel you, it's absolutely crazy-making. every time i went to the doctor between the ages of 11 and 21, i complained about my extremely heavy and irregular periods, and until i was 21 every doctor said "it'll get better when you get older" -- none would provide me with any specifics around what age it would even START to get better. then at 21, at my first obgyn appointment, my doctor said "i don't know, have you tried losing weight?" and i was QUITE LITERALLY THIN ( ... )

Jesus. Well, I guess it’s okay for women to have excruciating pain, bleeding through their clothes, barely able to function due to low iron, but god forbid they get a bit hairy!
