Damn it, really? I was so looking forward to watching it with that cast. Where did it go wrong? (I don't mind being spoilt, so feel free to go into detail.)
The way it's shot and the way it's written are both exceedingly pedestrian. Like, I was watching with some people and we kept elbowing each other like what is this Battlestar Galactica prequel shit? There are some standout cringe moments that felt unforgivable. Also, there are a thousand different visuals/directors they could've gone with for a more cinematic look on a budget but didn't somehow. The costumes also weren't giving. Or the space coke. Sometimes it felt like a bad Cyberpunk 2077 adaptation.
It's just not good enough to be under the HBO banner. It's a sci-fi channel show through and through with a little extra polish. I'll give it a few more episodes so I can see if different writer/director combos improve things, but so far, it's not what I wanted out of this show (it also makes me wonder if Diane Ademu-John's original treatment was really so bad that she had to be replaced to make way for this version of the show...)
I am really into the concept and I’m excited about seeing the entire series, but I literally could not stay awake through this episode and that’s me watching it on MAX at 6PM on the West Coast. I bailed midway through to go lay down and watch Jenny Nicholson’s Evermore video for the fiftieth time.
