That's a dumb thing to say. I'm completely lost as to what he could mean by the audience being active participants. Live theater and a television show are very different experiences (duh).

I think it's just a very inept way of saying "well you have to engage your imagination and fill in your own blanks to watch our show and the audience is too lazy."

It's a stupid sentiment terribly expressed. People can dislike what you're doing without it being a failure of imagination. "Active participants" makes it sound like actual engagement in what's unfolding, which... theater audiences have a very limited (and indirect) ability to participate and television audiences have zero.

and it makes no goddamn sense, because it's the active viewers who engage the most with the material, have opinions, voice them, develop theories, alternative storylines, etc. he ascribing passive values to the most active segment of the audience, lol.

he really should have just stopped after striking gold in season one if he didn't want to keep making the feel good show everyone wanted

Celebrities are really testing me.

You can dislike something and still be curious, Jason. You can dislike something and still have an imagination and be open to the experience of having an imagination.

You lose people when you say shit like this. It's okay for someone to want more of the first season. It's okay for someone to love all 3 seasons. This is rude and a fucking mean way to talk about your audience.

They don’t have imaginations and they’re not open to the experience of what it’s like to have one.

oh I'm definitively using this one next time I have bad feedback at work
