Yeah, I watch Shayna Baszler's twitch streams sometimes and she's gone into great detail about things they put various MMA fighters through for The Ultimate Fighter, and it sounds pretty horrible.

Choice of room colors play into it as well. There's been a lot of studies about how color can trigger emotional responses (there's a reason why a lot of hospitals are beige and some restaurants have red walls in the dining areas) and I'm sure they are doing some of that on these shows.
