also adults recognize that other adults have different tastes and perspectives and that art is subjective

Harassing members in their personal journals is hardly acting like an adult. And no, just because someone reacted to a comment of yours with a poop emoji doesn't justify that.

You need to look inward and grow up. Bye.

I think she just has a unique singing voice that's not for everyone

I love that she's a rejection of the sexy child image we popularized in the 90s (Britney, Christina.) she owns her sexuality rather than playing it up for the men / male gaze. It's a woman's point of view. Love her lyrics. Her last album helped me through a breakup. I don't gravitate to the drag persona aspect as much. I love her voice, there's a lot worse pop singers with weak voices, Billie eilish the whisper queen lol Taylor swift, Katy Perry, etc

Just a sloppy comment, can't sleep and reading on here til I fall asleep lol

Are we really pretending she isnt playing for the male gaze? Her two outfits last night were giving BBL, and like 90% of the discourse was about her body lmao

lmao what about her screams "playing for the male gaze"?

How on earth were her outfits giving BBL…?? They were like pretty tame and normal stage outfits? her body is 🔥 and women also find women hot. She also is just wearing stage costumes as a woman, regardless of what she wore people are going to comment simply because she’s a woman. It’s just weird to think that she wears what she wears to appeal to the male gaze. I’m just so confused by this comment lol.

Im equally confused that people are acting like chappell is a refreshing singer reclaiming her sexuality, when every reel i see is focusing on her body/ass and she is wearing outfits that specifically appease the BBL body standard. Its part of her drag costume.
Lesbians didnt set the BBL body standard for other lesbians, so dont feed me that shit. Like i dont know how else to break it down lmao.

I genuinely just don’t see what you mean by appease the BBL standard when she just has an ass and is wearing costumes and leotards. Most of her outfits are leotard based and minus the costume-y and drag aspects the base of those outfits are no different than what Beyonce or Taylor would wear on stage. And her ass looks real to me… Beyonce has a BBL (and regardless if Chappell has one.. whatever), so how is what she’s wearing different than Bey? I also have seen TikToks on her body, but most of the tiktoks I see on her are not focusing on her body so different algorithms for different folks I guess?

I also don’t think what people choose to focus on is a reflection of what she is trying to do artistically.

beyonce def appeals to the male gaze, and in a lot of ways taylor does too. im not saying chappell HAS a BBL, but she is still playing up her body with costumes in a way that satisfies men's body expectations from women. im counter-arguing the original comment saying shes rejecting the male gaze and dressing for the girlies. people say this shit about lolita-esque sabrina carpenter too, that shes dressing for the girlies, and its insane to me.

this is an example. idk how this is rejecting female body expectations or dressing for the girlies:

Of course IA that bey and Sabrina appeal to men. But I also just don’t get what you expect women to wear that isn’t male-gazey if you think Chappell wearing a full gown is too male-gazey. Women having a body and showing it off in any way shape or form is going to appeal to men because…. Men. We could have a long discourse about what women wear that they think is cute and how they may be socially conditioned to think showing off their bodies in a certain way is cute, sexy etc. etc. but like, we live in the real world and women are allowed to wear what makes them feel confident ( ... )

AGAIN i am not saying she should wear a paper bag or change her stage presence, clearly it is working for her and making her very rich and successful. the ONLY thing i am doing is countering the user acting like she is some innovative breath of fresh air that is so far from the other popstars that sexualize themselves and she is so far away from the male gaze. its just not true, and that is literally all im saying.

imo, the last superstar that ACTUALLY stepped away from the female popstar body/sexuality standards to the point where it was a fuck you to the male gaze, was billie eilish.

chappell stans seriously need to chill.

I’m not a stan tbh, just found the commentary confusing and generally disagree. IA on Billie, though.

so to your mind women either have to cover up completely and shapelessly, or we're dressing for the male gaze?
