she's very right that nothing about that situation happened because of her, she was just in the wrong place with the wrong person. I think there's a tendency to either romanticize the treatment ('this is just what passion is like, relationships are hard work') or to demonize oneself for receiving it ('if I wasn't so stupid I wouldn't make them act like that') and she's absolutely right that there was nothing special about her or the specific relationship, it's a him problem, and he'd have dumped it on anyone.

It's such a strange thing, because it's not like it was all bad. They leverage the good times to make you ignore all the horrifying times.
