it was required by my job but run by an outside org, & sexuality wasn’t required but it was like “give us whatever information you feel comfortable sharing” and literally every person included sexuality which is fine i guess but at the specific moment i was in personally did make me feel completely insane lol

It’s the fact that you’re saying it so definitively and relying on stigmas to “prove” your point. Which, in the context of this post is particularly rude. He’s saying how hard it’s been for him because people analyze and pull apart everything he does. That because he doesn’t fit the gender normative he’s just lying to himself. At minimum it’s just unnecessary.

Gender normative pressures are what keep people afraid to be open and explore their sexuality. That’s part of the whole problem. It shouldn’t intrigue people this much just let him live.

He's literally a gender-conforming man who I think fucks other men. It's only offensive if you secretly think that there is something shameful about it. No one is saying that he can't live, he's also a celebrity who shows no signs of wanting to step away from that life. Speculation is part of the package.

i mean ok! maybe he is hooking up with all these people! again i feel like things have gotten away from my original point, which was not to figure out what shawn mendes is doing or who shawn mendes is into, but just that i don’t think there’s any reason to assume he’s not being honest *to what he currently feels and believes* when he says he’s in the process of figuring himself out. that’s really all i’m trying to say - that i don’t think he necessarily actually is certain on the matter but is holding back for PR reasons or whatever. like, say he is bi, i think it makes sense that a bi dude whose sexuality was the topic of very public discourse that made him incredibly anxious would take a while to feel fully comfortable identifying that way, even if he has literally hooked up with a bunch of guys. (i really think it must be such a mindfuck to be untangling this stuff in the public eye, in ways that most of us can’t really even imagine.)
