I can really relate to the fights resolving themselves... but then I don't have this kind of traumatized family. I'm impressed that can do that despite the trauma.

Moral of the whole story seems to keep going returning to: Riley is a warrior! (And shangri_la too!)

these are so interesting to me to read she reminds me of so many women i knew in the south (including family). i can't fully explain why. the weird spirituality (seeing ghosts / telling her friend she was pregnant), oversharing with her kids, letting drugs dictate how she'd act (i'll die if i ever do meth). the constant rebellious attitude, even some of the lyrics. a distant father figure that looms over your whole life.

i'm also watching a bunch of intervention recently and comparing it with these posts. it's sad. i used to think addiction was mysterious - but there's almost always a cause and it's made worse by people keeping secrets and not speaking their truth. poor lisa and benjamin.

this sounds negative but it's fascinating to me to see what happens to these types of women when they have privilege. they marry michael jackson and fall into a cult!

thanks for the writeups!

i think most addictions are trauma based. To resolve that trauma you have to revisit it which is very hard for some people.

once again I'm like blown away OP. I was FT'ing with my best friend while reading through this one. I gave her a little over view and told her "It's so heavy and relatable. I'm not even reading it myself, just these summaries and it makes me want to cry."

Riley is so strong and has been through so much, one thing Lisa did right is having Danny be in her life through it all. Seeing my own struggles mirrored, in her, even if it's just an iota of to that experience can be so validating and maddening because it's like well fuck I've been through it too.

💜💜 take care of yourself, babe. Lisa Marie wanted to put the book out so people who related wouldn't feel so alone so I'm happy at least you don't feel alone at it. 💜
