i think she needs to log off. or get better people surrounding her? i only run into that stuff online, or with my like 12 year old cousins. my adult relationships are fine with sincerity and getting passionate about things and not making everything a joke. maybe im just lucky idk.
she's right. in a fandom context, fandom's gotten hellish because if you actually care about the source material, that's seen as a bad thing to some people. in the more wider popculture landscape, esp with things like tv, it feels like everyone's trying to be the smartest most cynical person in the room and it's insufferable how pervasive it is. i also do think people meme-ing her into oblivion are also transphobic in some ways; like the way this trans woman's specific art has been ridiculed at times or meme'd does carry that tone that some of this wouldn't have happened if she weren't a visibly trans artist.
Your comment reminds me of the people who are very actively fans of a movie/celebrity/sport on twitter but has to be sarcastic about it/the other fans/anything popular about it/the damn food that's being eaten. Anytime. It's like they are scared it'll physically hurt them to engage with other fans in a sincere way so they have to resort to undercutting any expressions of joy or excitement with a snide comment, or worse, the 'well actually'.
