Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Blvd as directed by Jamie Lloyd is now on Broadway at St. James Theater and lead actress Nicole Scherzinger with it. Scherzinger won an Olivier for Best Actress in a Musical in this very role for this production earlier this year. Will she also win the Tony

I saw it last Thursday and I thought the hype was certainly warranted. Nicole was truly and undeniably exceptional as Norma. 10 out of 10, no notes! Jamie Lloyd’s production can be polarizing, but I quite enjoyed the direction he took with this one-stripped down, yet still rich and precise. I also loved the black and white nod to film noir. Very stylish. Also, I now have a crush on Tom Francis.

yeah i know people are hit or miss with jamie lloyd especially the minimalism of it all but i actually kind of dig it from what i've seen of this revival. i think it helps that it's sooooo different than the original than it's easier to separate it and not compare too much. and yeah tom francis had already sold me with that olivier performance! is it gimmicky? sure! do i feel like seeing it live is probably a total thrill? probably!

i hope they recreate it for the tony's but they might stick to a nicole number to showcase her.
