Thank you, OP!

Wow is that Riley in that purple plaid skirt with Lisa? She looks 18 going on 35+ years old with so much make up and all that stuff on her. She also looks EXACTLY like LM at that angle with all that stuff on her, it's wild!

That is indeed Riley lol, she was maybe 13 or 14? Lisa loved her children dearly but it can certainly be argued she treated Riley as her girl friend rather than her daughter once she hit her preteens, and Riley pretty much confirms that in the book. Probably part of the reason Riley seems so "grounded" and lives like, as she describes it, a grandma now in her 30s.

Yeah, I saw and read some interviews with Riley about how is she accomplishing these things, like working in good indie films (American Honey, Lovesong, Zola, etc) and was she encouraged growing up?

And she said no way, that both parents were extremely lax, and she innately thrived on a schedule so she would make schedules for herself to the bafflement of her parents, and made structure for herself.

I wish I had that; I need external structure and I thrive, but I could never work from home all the time, I'd become so depressed. I'm glad my work is a mix of both.

I so regret not going to see her perform during her last tour! Always thought there would be another opportunity.... Storm and Grace is my favorite album of hers.

Wish she would have spoken more about Scientology in the book.... Suppose she never got around to it.

I honestly think people were delusional thinking Lisa Marie was going to rip apart scientology, honestly- she had pulled back from her criticisms during the last five years of her life (partially because of threats, and partially due to friends and family still in), she'd always been open on how the cult helped her and honestly, I think she just wanted to live quietly at the time of her death. There was never going to be a complete takedown by LMP.

true. I think that one dude who wrote about her after (Tony Ortega?) did a decent job telling what went down. I just have to wonder if some of the ppl whispering in her ear about Danny were Scientologists possibly acting on her mom's behalf...

That's absolutely what Riley and Danny are implying, imo.

OP, I am so grateful you are doing this. I have so many feelings each week after reading them that I do not know how to put into words

It's so sad that both Lisa and Riley had the experience of their mothers loving their second children, sons, more than them.

Riley says she always felt love from both her parents. There may have been a special bond between Lisa Marie and Ben but she clearly loved her daughter, too, even if she fell into the trap of treating her more like a friend than a child as Riley grew up.

Sure. I get that. I always felt love from both my parents, but their ~special bonds~ with my brothers have also caused long-term damage.
