He should've been nominated for Silence over Hacksaw Ridge, and not just because Mel sucks. I mean, he does, but that movie also generally sucks in other ways. OTT pro-war corny-ass schlock.

And since I'm being a hater, I guess now's a good time to admit I found his Prior Walter performance to be A Bit Much. It is a looonnngggg play, and that is a looonnggg time to PLAY EVERYTHING AT AN ELEVEN. I was excited to see him in it, but then I was...exhausted?

But otherwise I really like him as an actor. :\ I saw We Live in Time last night & liked it more than I expected to, the non-linear stuff actually works and doesn't feel manipulative imo, so why he felt the need to double down on his terrible Mel takes right now is a mystery.

I generally think he's a great actor, but I do agree with you re: his Prior Walter. I loved the show, and thought it was overall exhilarating and one of the best things I've seen on stage, but he was a bit OTT. Lee Pace was a lot better in his part, imo!
