Yearssss ago I went to this Q&A with some of the puppeteers/writers/producers that was moderated by Bobby Moynihan and I was shocked at the small turnout but also laughed because most of us were millennials. I definitely started crying when my fave, Grover, came out.
Later they brought out a newer character and their puppeteer and there was only polite applause lol. The panel even mentioned that we obv weren’t there as parents but for our childhood selves, otherwise we’d know who that character was.
I wonder how many times it happens when they have celebrity guests where this A-list actor reverts back to their childhood selves and suddenly becomes emotional at meeting Ernie.
They spoke about that! I know I’ve seen it in other articles as well - even when people see the puppeteers they interact with the character as if they’re the real person 🥹 I would too, ngl. My cute aggression would just take over.
