A man (or anyone, JODIE) defending irredeemable trash like Mel Gibson is also trash.

Shut up, Andrew. You don't get to decide if someone deserves a second chance, especially after the horrific things Mel said and did.

No one deserves to make movies. People deserve shelter, food, dignity. Movies are not actually important and working in the industry is a huge privilege.

If Mel Gibson has changed for the better, how come the general public hasn’t seen any proof of that in the last 20-ish years? Why are so many actors willing to screw up their own reputation to defend Mel Gibson?

Seriously. And if somebody wants to make movies, it's hard to stop them. Anybody can buy a camera and Mel Gibson is probably still rich. He could probably make self-funded movies that are more expensive than some indie movie stuff. But he doesn't want to to that, he wants to make hit movies with huge budgets.

What Garfield means is "he deserves to be loved by Hollywood and have a Hollywood star salary", which is even grosser.

I don't know if it will screw up his reputation. Jodie Foster and Robert Downey Jr. are two of his biggest defenders and they seem to be doing just fine.

Oh fuck off Andrew Garfield.

Anybody who wants to defend Mel Gibson should start the sentence by quoting what he said to his ex-girlfriend and reminding the audience (and themselves) what he did to her, and THEN he can decide if he really still wants to defend him.
