Cynthia Erivo has reacted to viral edits of the ‘WICKED’ poster:
“This is the wildest, most offensive thing I have seen, equal to that awful AI of us fighting… Our poster is an homage not an imitation, to edit my face & hide my eyes is to erase me. That is just deeply hurtful”

It's unfortunate that she takes it that way. It's just an edit to make it closer to the original. That's all it was ever meant to be.

Upon further knowledge, I would like to recant my classy comment.
Fuck her.

My biggest issue with the poster is not necessary the lack of smirk but it looks like she smelled something bad.

I can understand why she wouldn't like the edits. But like, take the hyperbole down a notch or two. Is it REALLY the WILDEST and MOST offensive thing you've seen? If so, damn girl, sounds like you've lived a charmed life!

sounds like she's had blinders on since 2016 apparently

My baseless hunch? When they did the photo she pushed back on recreating it exactly because of the reasons she stated and now that people are redoing it she is trying to avoid blame.
I think it does matter a lot to her which is her right esp as she deals with a lot of racist shit. Fans are going to fan however so I just hope she can log off for a bit until the movie is out and hopefully proper recognition for her performance.

I feel like there could have been a compromise if that was the case: A faithful recreation of the original poster like the fan edit for the promo leading up to the movie, then the official one as a "reveal" post-release. It would have echoed the story of Elphaba's character and would have kept fans of the OG musical happy too.
