I have seen so many YA authors as of late circling back years later to the series that made them famous. It's why we also now have like an entire new series in the Shatter Me universe. I guess even if you have name recognition as an author, it's not about you - the people just care about that one series/universe. Now I get why CC never let go of Shadowhunters...

I do wonder if this is coming out in part because the last film was a success given they announced the film simultaneously (I.E. LionsGate begged her to do another one). At the same time I think Collins has been pretty good at not milking it for the sake of milking it; 'Ballad' was the opposite of what fans were asking for at the time but IMO it's the most complex and layered in the series.

Probably has something to do with it, but even if she's not actively milking it, she is making out very well financially from it, so I can see why she would be eager to sign on and participate.

eh, i think collin's is actually pretty clear that she keeps coming back to it because she's writing about fascism and she's irl scared.

honestly i'm here for it. i wish that some of my favorite IP would just keep on giving and giving. i'm reading naomi novik's newest book which is a collection of short stories some of which are based on her previous books. when i started reading the first of the two temeraire-universe stories, i legit started tearing up. i have loved those books deeply for the past ten years and they have continued to bring me so much joy and to have new material was amazing. give me more to read and i'll give you my coin til my dying breath tbh!

also this is the quarter quell that had double the amount of tributes right?

Yes!
Description starts "As the day dawns on the fiftieth annual Hunger Games, fear grips the districts of Panem. This year, in honor of the Quarter Quell, twice as many tributes will be taken from their homes."

I'm more interested in what comes after his Games than what happened during it. I think it would be more interesting to delve into what it was like to live in the a neighbourhood of empty, desolate houses and how, unlike with Katniss, no one was starting a rebellion just decades and decades of dead kids. I particularly would loooove a book about how the victors are used afterwards by the Capitol as objects of fancy and not people, every year year thrust back into a complex world of politics and forced to re-live their own trauma via other children. What does it mean to be 19 and desperately trying to save the lives of these younger kids from your home district and watching them get slaughtered. When did Haymitch give up, how long did he play along with Capitoline politics?

Is this the only idea she has?

Given that she's written non-Hunger Games books, no.

As I commented above, I think the YA industry is dealing with some declining sales and multiple YA authors are being signed to new deals within their most popular universes. A lot of adults who once bought YA are now migrating to BookTok adult stuff - adult books with sex written at a YA level. Even some YA publishers are signing adult books (mostly YA authors transitioning into adult romantasy god I fucking hate that word).

Curious, do you mean the adult books have sex and are written at a ya level, or they’re adult books and the sex specifically is written at a ya level?
