I have seen so many YA authors as of late circling back years later to the series that made them famous. It's why we also now have like an entire new series in the Shatter Me universe. I guess even if you have name recognition as an author, it's not about you - the people just care about that one series/universe. Now I get why CC never let go of Shadowhunters...

Probably has something to do with it, but even if she's not actively milking it, she is making out very well financially from it, so I can see why she would be eager to sign on and participate.

Description starts "As the day dawns on the fiftieth annual Hunger Games, fear grips the districts of Panem. This year, in honor of the Quarter Quell, twice as many tributes will be taken from their homes."

I'm more interested in what comes after his Games than what happened during it. I think it would be more interesting to delve into what it was like to live in the a neighbourhood of empty, desolate houses and how, unlike with Katniss, no one was starting a rebellion just decades and decades of dead kids. I particularly would loooove a book about how the victors are used afterwards by the Capitol as objects of fancy and not people, every year year thrust back into a complex world of politics and forced to re-live their own trauma via other children. What does it mean to be 19 and desperately trying to save the lives of these younger kids from your home district and watching them get slaughtered. When did Haymitch give up, how long did he play along with Capitoline politics?

As I commented above, I think the YA industry is dealing with some declining sales and multiple YA authors are being signed to new deals within their most popular universes. A lot of adults who once bought YA are now migrating to BookTok adult stuff - adult books with sex written at a YA level. Even some YA publishers are signing adult books (mostly YA authors transitioning into adult romantasy god I fucking hate that word).
