Greta Gerwig Allegedly Trying to Back Out of Netflix Deal

Oct 14, 2024 11:11

Some further encouraging word that Greta Gerwig might be trying to get out of her @netflix deal to direct Narnia. I hope that happens, she is far too talented to be buried on streaming for the next 5 years. It would be a waste for everyone involved. She belongs in theaters. pic.twitter.com/VfaiaJWjQG

I mean, its a contract that she signed, no?

She isn't some nobody with no weight and struggling for work so I don't really care about this story tbh.

If she gets out, then yay because she wants out but at what point she wanted in so...

What a terrible, irrevocable, history altering loss to the world of film for 5 whole years. Thoughts and prayers!

I hope you can't read sarcasm (or are being sarcastic yourself), bb, bc if you think that's my actual opinion, I'm feeling attacked! lol

Between her and Emerald Fennell acting like theyre above straming... they should really look what happened to Patty Jenkins when she did the same.

WW84 bombed and she hasn't been heard from since.

Greta is a better filmmaker than both Emerald and Patty, but I’m not seeing how WW84 bombing is connected to streamers.

Patty badmouthed streaming movies before WW84...

But she hasn't been given either theatrical work or streaming work since.

Streaming might not be ~prestigious....but it's definitely job security for women 99% of the time.

She isn’t getting theatrical work because one of her movies bombed when it was released during the pandemic (it also sucked but that isn’t really the issue). If she was a man it wouldn’t be an issue, and she shouldn’t have to suck up to streaming if she doesn’t like the model and wants to do theatrical work. Martin Scorsese bitches about streaming all the time and that isn’t going to stop him. And I know Patty is nowhere near Marty, but the point is simply that she shouldn’t have to suck up to Netflix because “job security for women.”

Let's not pretend like they'd churn out all five movies in consecutive years, at worst she'd be tied up every other year (or until Netflix inevitably kills this projects two 1/2 movies in).

Netflix enjoys dropping the ball so hard for even some of their top view-getting movies of all time and their sequels. It's like they actually want their stuff to fail. All Greta has to do is churn out one mediocre movie and she'll be released.
