Dune 2???
I had good time at the cinema watching it, but it diminished with each rewatch at home (2 in total).

I do really want to see Conclave

Obvs I haven't seen these movies yet but it does look like a weak year.

I'm guessing Adrien Brody is the frontrunner cause he's had the most buzz, same with Mikey Madison.

Interesting timing with that Sept 5 film.

I guess it depends on how The Brutalist hits with the GP. Film critics love it and I’m very excited to see it but it’s also a 3.5 hour long film from a director most people aren’t aware of. If the film is as much of a hit with audiences as with critics, Adrien will win… if not, I’m not sure who. Sing Sing’s box office numbers were awful so unless A24 can save it and get people to watch it in VOD, like Apple did with CODA, I don’t think it’ll be Colman (I saw it and Clarence Maclin is more deserving anyway). At that point we’d be left with Ralph Fiennes and Lil Timmy Tim.

Ralph Fiennes was an early frontrunner until The Brutalist arrived. I've been rooting for Ralph cause I think he's been snubbed like for The Grand Budapest and even The Menu...THE MAN IS COMEDIC REWARD HIM FOR THAT!!

But I haven't been interested in The Brutalist cause I'm like "ugh another WWII-set movie really?" even though this is technically post-WWII but still I haven't seen it. Be funny (and lacking range) if he wins for this cause that's 2 wins for WWII-related films.

Sing Sing left the stage a while back which is interesting cause I heard initially strong reviews especially for Colman.

I actually found Colman’s performance kind of hammy (at the point in the movie where he gets his big dramatic moments, it was fine until then) and his character just unnecessary. It’s a film that’s supposed to be about rehabilitation through the arts yet the main character is someone who was falsely convicted? 😭 What does he have to be rehabilitated for? I thought the movie was kind of bad as a whole tbh, it didn’t have anything to say about rehabilitation through the arts other than platitudes and just kind of a manipulative tearjerker but the Academy does usually eat that kind of movie up. Clarence Maclin whose character ACTUALLY gets rehabilitated through the arts, as was the point of the movie, was much better and the only bright spot ( ... )

It reminds me of that OTT campaigning of Andrea Riseborough a few years ago

Scott Feinberg is a shill for whichever PR rep pays him off the most. Sometimes it a lunch at a really expensive restaurant, where he leaves with a swag bag. For years he's made deals to get an exclusive interview with an actress on the set of whatever film she's working on in exchange for starting fake Oscar buzz about her, when she's in a film that's never going to get any noms. But she gets 4 months of free publicity about being up for Oscar consideration when that really isn't the case. None of this happens organically.

Now he's doing it for a film, rather than an individual.

None of these upcoming awards movies look that interesting to me except for maybe Anora. I’m on the Challengers hype train even tho there’s not much steam right now lol but I would love to see Josh O Connor and Mike Faist getting supporting actor noms! And of course the score. My only other nom I’m attached to at this point is also in supporting actor, Austin Butler for Dune 2. That one might be more attainable lol

I feel like Challengers best shot would be the soundtrack, cause I thought Josh and Mike were great but not awards-worthy great. Zendaya at best I could see a GG but nothing beyond that even though again I don't think any of the actors were awards-worthy.

Really I thought they were both so good!! But I haven’t seen any of these movies listed here for best actor so idk. Some times the supporting categories are messy lol Zendaya tried her best to keep up lol and she wasn’t bad I just don’t find her very convincing as a dramatic actress. I thought in Dune 2 both her and Timmy were outshined by Austin and Lea Seydoux. But a golden globe nom is very possible for her

Challengers was a step in the right direction by Zendaya but I agree that she's not that convincing as a dramatic actress for now cause that's where in both Dune 2 and Challengers I thought she was weak. She's good in relaxed conservational scenes because I thought the scene when she was with Josh and Mike in the hotel room were she was pretty good! But yeah Mike and Josh can run circles around her. But because she's the more popular I could see a GG nom at best.

Zoe Saldana? Idk. I think the studio is going to push Selena as Best Supporting Actress over her.

And Timmy Tim is going to move heaven & earth to get a Best Actor nom.

No women in the director category again...

Have all those movies even been screened already?

some of these are in theaters already and pretty much all of them have been seen at some film festival or another

zoe's the frontrunner for supporting this year, selena's on the fence depending on how strong or weak the category'll be
