I absolutely believe Nikki, I also hate to side with the police but they were the ones who arrested him because she had visible injuries. This unfortunately sounds like a he said she said situation and I bet that's why they declined to press charges. But the police could've arrested both of them if Artem had the injuries he posted, but chose not to. He's absolutely playing into the fact that she's not a perfect victim
