the box office tracking for this is awful

the reactions from the preview screenings are awful

and Gaga doesn't even seem to be in it much

I saw it last night. The film starts strong and Gaga is crucial in that. It then devolves into a slog that recites the events of the first film over and over without offering anything new or nuanced about it. Gaga disappears in the last third, right after her character is given some quite interesting shading. The musical numbers start strong but become repetitive and annoying. The last few minutes offer a very provocative commentary on the story as a whole but it’s kind of too little too late.

It’s what he deserves for being such a selfish prick. Not like this being a critical and financial failure will have a negative effect on his status in Hollywood or the projects he’ll be offered in the future, unfortunately.

the whole joker 2 thing bores me but i don't even know if it's because i don't like musicals or because the first movie should have been a standalone thing

idk. i'll probably watch it when it can be streamed

It bores me too and I generally like musicals! I think Todd Phillips is a hack and these movies just straight up aren't good.

Joaquin seems like it took a shower, finally.

I like Gaga's necklace a lot, but that dress is boring (like I understand it doesn't need to be colorful but maybe a different dark pattern?).

Rooney looks like she is lost.

So much screenings around me are already sold out, but it's NYC, it's a weird place. I'll see it because I genuinely love the two of them and I couldn't bear the cultural FOMO, but my hopes are...tempered. More excited for The Outrun tbh.
