Imagining she’s excellent in the role, the industry doesn’t seem to love her as much as they do her abusive ex. So industry politics mean it’s not a done deal lol.

Exactly this. She could be absolutely phenomenal and deserve to win, but I think too many people love her shitstain of an ex to properly reward her for her work. Would love to be wrong, though.

Babygirl, she's getting a lot of buzz. People are saying it's a return to form, like her best work since Birth or something.

hmmm. Interested.

Does anyone else have the peeve where someone in a movie is miming playing an instrument and you can clearly tell they're faking because you actually play said instrument but a lay person can't? Violinists and to a lesser extent cellists in movies bounce me right out of suspension of disbelief. I have yet to see well-faked violin playing.

I get that, but I can tell you that extreme purism in that field can be a worse curse. I worked on a music video with a flutist, who insisted, that fake playing looks stupid and she was not going to do it, and then we couldn't synchronize music to anything and ended up not releasing it at all. I know you are talking about a bit different thing though.
