Apparently Eisenberg made use of the real house that his grandparents' family was expelled from during the Holocaust as a filming location for this.

I'm getting Everything Is Illuminated vibes from this, but minus the delightfully zany Eugene Hutz. It's a fish-out-of-water tale but with no real foil aside from Poland itself, so it feels a bit navel-gazing to me. I do appreciate that Eisenberg got to make a connection with his grandparents' actual home and film in it; I wonder if this will come through in his acting and give the film some emotional heft.
