“ I didn't want them to say it's some woke movie - we’re above politics in making of the film.”

I don’t understand this quote and how it squares with the central messages and themes of this film. I get that he casted Jon Voight and that’s probably what he is alluding to when he says that he wanted to cast people who disagree politically. But the film itself is very political, isn’t it?

I believe Shia's in it as well.

Ooh, is Shia conservative? I admittedly don’t follow him at all.

What I see is a bunch of old, mostly white men with a bunch of young, mostly white women in questionable dresses. The words are another thing to take issue with, but I'm here on ONTD so I'll read the bold text and move on because who has time for the BS?

Aubrey looks like she's about to take the stand at the trial for the murderer of her husband only she's the one who actually killed him

For the longest time, I thought this was supposed to be a remake / interpretation of "Metropolis" (Fritz Lang, 1927) and a bit huffy that he thinks he can beat that cinematic monolith. And with the name of this film, the surrounding narrative of it being gargantuan, decades in the making, FFC's life dream, expected to never could be made after all... it made sense. Now I read the summary, and it's something completely different, that honestly sounds pretty uninspired, oops. Am I the only one who hallucinated a Metropolis/Megalopolis resemblance, or was it calculated marketing? lol

You're definitely onto something. I haven't seen this film but I'm pretty sure he was at least partially inspired by Metropolis. Wouldn't be surprised if he wanted this to be as iconic and ground-breaking as Metropolis, too.

We saw the simulcast of this and the movie afterward, and both were funny in ways I am sure they were not intended to be.

We've seen all three of these men on Q&A panels before, but as soon as we saw it was all three of them together, my husband was like "oh boy" under his breath. Chaotic group! Robert DeNiro's ability to bring up Trump in literally any Q&A he does is genuinely incredible. And you definitely want Spike Lee as your hype man, because he is passionate as fuck, but he has a hard time keeping a train of thought. I'd love to sit in on one of his NYU classes, lol.

At so many points during this movie, I thought that Aubrey Plaza was [Spoiler (click to open)]channeling Janet Snakehole, and the way she's dressed here kind of confirms intentionality with that. Definitely recommend seeing her other movie in theaters right now - My Old Ass - over this one!

I'm basically going because I want to see eye candy and beautiful art direction, plus I have to admit I have a soft spot for people's passion projects when they get older. 😂 Does it at least deliver on that front?

Definitely some unique visuals, to be sure! And if those are your reasons to see it, you should definitely go, just with moderate expectations.

The visuals are the definite draw but the story sounds interesting enough. While there's some questionable folks in this there's also a lot I like, and now that you told me there's unintentional lols to be had I'm excited.
