The magic sauce for Katy was never in Dr. Puke. It was Max Martin that was the co-writer on a majority of the songs with Dr. Puke. Bonnie McKee also helped give that sound too. From what I can see on wiki there is not a single song on the new album that has Max Martin on it. She made bad choices. Bound to flop.

she really blew it, before the news of working with dr. luke people did seem interested in a comeback from her with nostalgia for her hits and the time when pop music was fun and less serious.
the criticism has been so brutal that sometimes even I feel bad for her lol. I've seen a lot of ageism snuck into it too online

I haven't listened to the album & probably won't, knowing dr. luke was involved makes it feel really gross

I do remember a lot of people feeling bad for her recent floppage before it came out that she worked with Luke again.

I gave it a listen because, despite everything, I used to be a big fan and thought there might be a few good gems in there. Sadly, all the reviews saying it sounds 'AI-generated' are right. That's the best way I can describe it. Her voice sounds so robotic and uninterested. Even the best tracks (like 'Nirvana') feel like they're missing something-that extra oomph. It all just sounds very... bland. So strange. It feels like she didn't really want the comeback either.

I'd feel worse about this if it were anyone else and they hadn't consciously made the decision to work with Dr. Luke.
