Lol the the minute I saw that "15M" I was like "and that's still too low of a budget for another film for someone like him".

idk about surreptitious video but unnamed/anonymous sources have been a thing since the dawn of journalism, Frankie. that's kind of the only way people will give you vital information sometimes.

i understand that they know what they're doing and it's for PR/legal purposes but the way so many people play stupid now to defend themselves is infuriating and off-putting. so Trumpian. 🤢

idk but I’m not inclined to give the benefit of the doubt to someone who cast Shia Labeouf and Jon Voight.

He also was the executive producer of Victor Salva's film, Jeepers Creepers. That might seem like nothing, but Coppola considered Salva a notable talent, and he knew him *before* his 1988 conviction for sexually assaulting the child star of one of his films. This is the kind of crime you do not forget even if happened 15 years in the past, and you certainly don't put your acclaimed name onto one of his films as the executive producer.

His quote about Salva was even worse.

'When asked about his relationship to the pedophile Salva, Coppola said “You have to remember, while this was a tragedy, that the difference in age between Victor and the boy was very small -- Victor was practically a child himself.”'

The boy was 12, Salva was 29.

It's a little funny if his motivation really was "I'm going to cast a bunch of 'victims of cancel culture' to prove an asinine point!" and then the movie bombed.

Someone's reputation being so tarnished, they become box office poison or are straight up blacklisted is not a new phenomenon and predates the current understanding of canceling by a lot. I guess the old timers were cool with it when it was only happening to Jewish people, commies, POC, or women.
