they really are rooting for everyone's downfall but their own. I worked tech/stage design and they were evil little fucks.

i saw this earlier and it's had me thinking about how the 2000s were such a wild time to be a teenager. like there was a very narrow window of acceptable hobbies (mostly sports) and god help you if you had some kind of creative pursuit and people at school found out about it.

i was talking about it a while ago with some friends my age and one of them said that he didn't learn to embrace having hobbies until he stumbled upon the vlog brothers and their "IT'S OKAY TO ENJOY THINGS" content

like literally it was seen as more okay to bully someone for being passionate about their art than it was to be passionate about your art

Kids used to bully other kids about literally anything they didn’t think was cool or when they were mad they sucked at the particular thing the bullied kid was good at.

So much this. As a teen (okay maybe more late 90s than 2000s), you couldn't like anything. Everything was "gay" - especially dancing.

The heaviest teen bullying I received started when my paintings were singled out in art class and I won a local contest. One boy dumped a can of black paint into my art box as the bell rang, all over my brushes and everything, and I was late to my next class, trying to rinse it out fast fast fast, while the art teacher told me to hurry up, like my time management was the problem. He would also paint things on the back of my canvases, like pink triangles to call me a lesbian.

Any one who excelled at or put effort into anything (that was not sports) was turned into hamburger. I didn't find out for years sometimes that my high school friends were also accomplished at playing the piano, etc.

Yeah. I've always been into clothing and "fashion" (more in the sense of how and why people dress, and clothes as artefacts, less into fashion as consumerism) and because I used to dress in a somewhat unconventional way and made most of my clothes and trifted many of them, I was bullied and made fun of.

Now I have the same people come to me saying they find my work (as a designer) great and telling me how cool I was back in my teen years. Like... I know. I always knew, but where were you? It's always been neat, and you've never been the arbiter of what's ~~cool~~.

I can't imagine being the person who started this group when Just Dance came out. And then A Star is Born. And now Joker 2. Like you could've been friends with this girl instead you did this and she knows exactly who you are so you can't even pull the "hey we knew each other in college" thing.

I mean Gaga is extremely obnoxious. So it's not surprising people didn't like her.

They don’t sound like prizes themselves if they all decided to make this about her.

Well obviously lol. Only a total asshole would make a bullying Facebook group about somebody.
