I only watched Chappell's performance because idgaf about anyone else and she served. I laughed that she did not touch any of the hands reaching out for her at the end too lmao

Taylor touched all of their hands like a true messiah.

Huh. Well that was disappointingly heterosexual

ETA: this was meant for chappell’s performance but it applies to everyone tbh

Oh, and not to be a hater here but this kinda highlights how boring kpop performances have become cuz the Chappell, Megan and Sabrina performances feel way more "alive" and engaging than what the kpop idols brought to the table. Kpop idols are not performers anymore, not the way they used to be anyway. The energy is rarely there, and even when it is, the extremely heavy playback (or sometimes outright lipsyncing) really brings it down.

it's kind of fascinating for me because the girl groups' stages feel like somewhere between school talent show and sound check but they're having a moment on the charts that's lasted like a year and a half

boy groups (the ones i pay attention to anyway) are just like 🎸💥🎊🕺🏼🕺🏼🕺🏼🕺🏼 passion energy footwork but they can't get a toehold once they come offstage

also, i've never watched a blackpink performance before but some of lisa's flourishes were almost... swiftian

I know what you mean lol. Everyone says we're in THE era of girl groups and while that is true from a charts-n-numbers perspective, it has been the most droll era for ggs in years imo. Viviz are pm the only group I keep up with these days, which is sad. Circa 2012-2015, I was always stanning at least 4 or 5 ggs at any given time lol currently, I struggle to even differentiate most of them.

it's kind of wild because it feels like it should be ✨WOMEN✨ with 3rd gen girls lasting as long as they have. but outside of aespa with supernova/armageddon idt anyone has really grabbed and held attention after their comeback promotions ended. i listen to twice and fromis_9 who sound like early twice imo. they're at very different places in their careers but they both feel, shall we say sedate, for different reasons.

i can't get into 4th gen girls for the most part because like you, i struggle telling them apart or the stage skills are atrocious. i feel like i hear more about sojang/min hee jin/the givers than i hear any of their songs.
