I can't imagine being with someone most of your life - living a life longer with them than without them - and it dissolving. Maybe for the best in the long run but STILL. I'm 37 now myself and odds are high I'll never be in one of those 30 - 50 year relationships, which is fine truly, so maybe for that reason it's hard for me to imagine IDK

honestly, I know so many couples who have stopped liking each other ages ago and stay together either bc breaking up means “failure” or bc they’re too scared to move on that I can’t help but admire people who break up (especially after so many years) bc their relationship simply doesn’t make sense anymore. It’s brave and I see it as a very positive thing.

100% and I've seen it in my own family. A lot of the women went the SAHM route and then don't have any money to leave the husband.

I know many, many couples in their late 40s and 50s like this. Becoming empty nesters have made them realize the kids are what held them together but they don’t want to divorce because of the finances and division of assets. Or because they’re just too used to being in a loveless marriage. It’s honestly really sad.
