Category fraud has become a big topic of conversation around award shows nowadays (aka, "Wait, how is The Bear a comedy?!") Awards season is a great time to look back at all of our favorite films, shows, and performances of the last year - but every time the Emmy Awards in particular roll around and nominations are announced, there’s so much ( Read more... )

What I hate most about the Emmys is they just get stuck on one person or show and just keeping voting for them no matter what. The fact that Steve Carell has zero wins for Michael Scott but Jim Parsons has FOUR wins for Sheldon is just…and two of Jim’s wins were up against Steve too. Spread the wealth!!

Probably an unpopular opinion but I think once you won an award for your show you shouldn't be able to be nominated again. If you lost, then yes, but if you won that's it. Same if a show wins best comedy or drama. Once the show wins then they can no longer submit.

It's why the Emmys is my least fave awards shows. I was tired of the same person having the ability to win the same category a milllionnnn times!! While shutting out more deserving talent.

Like there is lobbying and fuckery in all award shows but I don't see someone consistently dominate a category at the Grammys, Tonys, Oscars, hell even the vmas and all other less serious awards.

I actually like the suggestion in the video of a third category for "dramedies", as it would increase the chances for full on comedies.

What really irks me: It feels like so many awards go to certain names because of name recognition instead of the actual material they submitted. On the other hand it's totally logical that a lot of the voters won't have watched everything or everything with enough attention to give a qualified vote.

All this wouldn't mater if it wasn't for the fact, that awards can keep shows on air.

Well, I remember that Megan Amram made an entire web series called An Emmy for Megan because she reeeeally wanted an Emmy, she never won despite four nominations, and then she got canceled for that racist stuff on her Twitter account and she's kinda disappeared off the planet so... IDK why I remembered that LOL.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megan_Amram#Controversy But apparently she wasn't 100% canceled - maybe her TV writing career, but she now has stuff in McSweeney's and the New Yorker.

Oh. Wow. Those are really something else.

Her career definitely isn't over. She just did the Pitch Perfect spinoff. That's why I was so shocked to learn this.
