I still have no idea what the original and this movie is about. Some of my clients had been talking about watching it so that's the only reason I knew a second one was coming out lol.

I might try watching the first one and see if I like it then wait until the sequel is on streaming

TIL that even matinee shows are >$10 here.

I want to see this but that just pisses me off.

There was a lot I liked, but it's hilarious how unnecessary MB's character was, and Willem Dafoe's as well, arguably. We already had enough conflict with [Spoiler (click to open)]Astrid's murderer ghost bf, which I admit I did not see coming, and Lydia's whole situation with Justin Theroux and not wanting to summon Beetlejuice again, we don't need MORE. But it was only ~100 minutes as it was, so maybe they needed to pad the runtime?

I LOVED the use of practical effects/puppets/models, esp. the cat lady and the fish [Spoiler (click to open)]flapping on Astrid's hot dad. Such a great touch.

Honestly
[Spoiler (click to open)]the killer ghost love interest and finding out how to free Lydia of the marriage contract could've taken up plenty of time for the last half of the film. Both are wrapped up SO QUICKLY that they didnt need to pad for runtime imo.

They needed a Juno-like character who could explain to them how to save Astrid and Lydia

Saw this today and I had so much damn fun. It really was just a joy to watch. So refreshing to see practical effects again.
