I want to joke "Is it 2005?" but honestly, there aren't many popular bands to choose from right now. Maybe I just haven't been looking (spoiler i haven't i'm a creature of habit and don't listen to the radio or anything), but I swear there haven't been super popular bands in recent years. We don't really have an economy that supports one either; a lot of people who were in bands had a part time job they could live off of while doing gigs on the side. We don't really have places as far as I know that do stuff like that anymore. There's also no radio stations to heavily play new bands are local artists.

I miss bands like The Strokes, Interpol, Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Black Keys. If I'm completely wrong, please give me some reccs.
