Such a great season, but it's going to make buddies mad because Eddie's arc isn't their preferred fic dynamic-a characterless blob that just exists to circle around Buck like a satellite.
Oh man, I’m still relatively new to the fandom but I got annoyed very quickly with that type of buddie fan who is basically just a Buck fan. while I love Buck, Eddie is my favourite character and it annoys me so much that people reduce his character to what he can do for Buck. LET EDDIE HAVE HIS OWN STORIES😭
I only started watching two years ago during the season five winter hiatus! But lol yeah, I had a few new many bad experiences from Buck-centric buddies, which feels like 90% of fandom. I have a pal in that's supposed to be Eddie-focused discord and she talks a lot about how they spend majority of time talking about Buck, Tommy, and LOU
lol yes! it doesn't take long to catch up with fandom BS. THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT TOMMY IN AN EDDIE-FOCUSED DISCORD?? can Eddie not catch a break lmao even in his own discord...I don't want to hear about that man after he gets written off lol. and LOU???? please. Someone needs to start a better discord!
You can tell which ones they are in particular because a bunch of them switched to BuckTommys once they got together.
I love Buck but Eddie is my guy and I ADORED that unhinged doppelganger storyline. That scene with Chris and Eddie in the finale tore me apart. BRING HIM BACK.
Yup, and tbh while I don't have respect for the bucktommy shippers, I think it's silly that Buddies act like they're not equally dismissive of Eddie's character. They always have some damn complaint when Eddie's storyline isn't about Buck, but Buck has a storyline outside Eddie, it's business as usual.
But exactly, I love Buck but Eddie's my guy. After a Buck heavy seasons 4-6, we can focus on other character while he takes the backseat.
You're 100% right about the Buck-heavy seasons (though I might blame the showrunners who were in charge then when Tim Minear went over to Lone Star). I think that's why they took the breaks off him after 7x06 so they could focus on other characters in a very short season. I know people complained of the lack of Buck in the latter half of s7, but eps 4-6 were really focused on him and even the Maddie/Chimney wedding felt too short (that should have been a two-parter and the cruise should only have been two eps instead of three).
I'm hoping with a regular length season they can even it out a little better.
I completely agree with assigning blame on the showrunners left in charge while Tim left to play with Buddie Lite on Lone Star. Overall I enjoyed season seven, but what was remarkable about it was how it felt like everyone had equal importance again. I never really noticed how much Buck truly DOMINATED the show until it got stripped back. So I look forward to seeing it be further fleshed out next season, like you.
It definitely started evening out. We had less calls but more character work, which can never be a bad thing. I hope they reach a good medium this season. Can't wait! 🤞🏽
I believe they will. I have a theory that second half was light on calls to allow the production to get those episodes out. They got fallen behind schedule filming the cruise arc and never recovered the lost ground. That said, I agree the character work. I don't get why some people treat this show as if it's Law & Order. It's always been a character heavy show and the calls in the non-event episodes are usually centered and provide commentary for the cast of characters.
Oh yeah, I remember at one point they were filming the finale two weeks before it aired. I can imagine having more complicated calls was hard to do in a shortened production schedule.
