He does hook up with an African American character (the main character and it happens like the night before his wedding), but there's definitely an element of internalized racism to Rishi. He's so ambitious he's acquisitive of all markers of power in that society.

i think that's exactly what the creators are trying to comment on! i would consider giving it a shot because i feel like there's a lot of intentionality in the writing, and his character's marriage with a white woman isn't because the creators fetishize interracial couples, but because it reveals something about who he is. his character, like the others on the show, is obsessed with status and power, which is why he tries to ingratiate himself in white spaces (and fails to fully, based on the microaggressions he faces). his wife comments on how he wants her so he can show her off as his “English rose."
