They didn't show his face the entire time that he was at his grandfather's house so I was already suspicious about what was going on before he was even allegedly shot. His face being unidentifiable clinched it for me. My only question was how many other people were in on it, which I guess we'll learn as the season goes on.
Yeah I figured as well. I think someone pretending to be him has been trying to pump David for... something, which is why he at one point didn't recognize River. I wonder if it's maybe not even dementia, or not only dementia, but he's being drugged or something. I know Gramps has been retired for a long time, but he was pretty high up in MI5, he probably has knowledge that's still relevant.
I think I read like three of the novels in one go and was suddenly over everyone being miserable, but it's still better than having to look at Gary Oldman.
they really had me second-guessing but [Spoiler (click to open)]i was so sure they wouldn’t kill river off in such an unceremonious way, plus not showing his face was suspicious (though whoever that was sounded JUST like him to me). i was only convinced when i remembered the episode is titled identity theft. i really hope he isn’t off on the solo side quest all season, even though i’m sure the team won’t know he’s alive for a while. i enjoy the team getting to interact more (the scene with him and louisa at the top of the episode was great lol).
also diana getting [Spoiler (click to open)]passed over for first chair surprised me, even though it’s not at all surprising. i’m excited to see where that story goes.
They put some mediocre (probably connected) white man in charge, who to his credit seems to know he might not be up to the job as he seems to tap Diana in at every opportunity. Interested to see how that dynamic develops over the season!
