Columbus Blue Jackets winger Johnny Gaudreau, 31, and his brother Matthew, 29, were killed Thursday after being struck by a vehicle while riding their bicycles.
Both brothers were supposed to serve as groomsmen in their sister Katie’s wedding on Friday.

August 30, 2024 Hockey players Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau were killed by a suspected drunk driver on Thursday night in Salem, New Jersey. Johnny played for the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets in the NHL. Nicknamed "Johnny Hockey," he was awarded the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy (given to the league's most sportsmanlike player) for the 2016-2017 season. Matthew played in the minor leagues (AHL and ECHL) before he began coaching. At the time of his death, he had been the coach of Gloucester Catholic High School's hockey team in New Jersey for two seasons.
