I haven’t seen Spencer but I really enjoyed Jackie on my first and only watch. Knowing nothing about Maria Callas aside from name recognition, I’m excited for this to be a point of entry. I sort of like this fictional/artistic imagining of real life people. I feel like if we have to deal with people bending or playing with the truth somewhat, isn’t film a fitting medium?
And I think what makes Larraín’s work intriguing and why I am so on board is that it’s being presented up front as a fantasy and not meant to be taken as fact. Also, I think on some level as an audience member, you’re meant to sense that this is an portrait of a possible interior life that the main figure could have actually experienced and as a result doesn’t feel exploitative like the Ana Armas-Marilyn Monroe reimagining.
Maybe, though, if I watch the films back to back though, my view of his work will have altered.

Same. I much rather watch a movie like Jackie or I'm Not There, than the paint by numbers biopics we usually get (I'm still mad BR did my king Freddie so wrong). And I love Angelina, so I'll be seated for this.

It looks good to me anyway lol But I love Larrain's ~biopics~ so I guess I'm biased.
