VERONICA MARS!!!! (especially the first 2 seasons). i also loved elementary, though it was obviously more episodic vs an overarching mystery.

murder mysteries are probably my favorite genre of anything. i have read about 2/3 of agatha christie’s poirot novels bc he’s my favorite detective, along with a handful of her other stories. this year i also read benjamin stephenson’s most recent two books and they’re excellent. the first one is called everyone in my family has killed someone and the second is everyone on this train is a suspect. well-written, very funny australian murder mysteries.

in terms of movies - knives out/glass onion, the whole scream series (they count!!), witness for the prosecution, primal fear, and ofc seminal classic CLUE.

Oh. This is still painful for me, lol. I didn’t think it would be. I first watched VM starting in May 2020, fell in love, watched the last season, and am still not ok.

I loved the American The Killing with Mirellas Enos and Joel Kinnaman. Great show all the way through.

If you haven't watched it I recommend the original, Forbrydelsen (first season), because it's even better.

I like murder mysteries when it's heavy on the characterisation. No need for CSI-like montages of everything you need to discover a super-convoluted motivation. Give me character-stories so I can go "Oh fuck okay I support her", "Oh shit no, I don't support her??", "Hey, everyone's got a solid reason, this guy sucked".

I love Poirot (David Suchet). Deadloch was a big favorite of mine recently.

i loved the all the endings with performances at the end of each (most?) episodes of the twin peaks sequel

ignore the part in the beginning where sky ferreira scratches at an armpit rash

i'll always have a soft spot for monk because it was my dad's fave

I was only introduced to Lissie on Loudermilk and that song she did acoustic in the music store was amazing.
