Macklemore had some concerts in Dubai, United Arab Emirates in October. For the past several months, Sudanese activists have campaigning and talking to Macklemore so he would cancel his concerts in Dubai because the UAE is being complicit in the genocide in Sudan right now. Yesterday,

A super big shoutout to the Sudanese activists who helped pushed Macklemore to make this decision.

Going to piggy back on this and say MASSIVE shoutout to whoever helped him draft this statement. I work in government and this hits every requirement we have for statements on contentious issues:
-concise yet informative (not drowning you in figures/data but provides quotable facts),
-layouts how they came to this decision and acknowledges it was a process,
-keeps the "voice" of the poster so it doesn't read like a PR statement, and
-non-judgmental but provides actionable solutions.

Seriously, A+. Also so happy Macklemore was willing to listen, it's amazing to me how resistant normally empathetic people can get when it's something that involves their paycheque.
