i understand that sometimes rescues don't work out for families for a variety of reasons but this feels like it's more on her than anything else. why did she leave them out where the dog could get them? why not just get new ones (they have the money) and train the dog?

when i got my rescue dog she chewed through the curtains my mom handmade. my mom was furious obviously but we never once considered getting rid of my dog. we just tried to train her not to do that (but tbh i think it was an anxiety thing since she was rescued from a horrible situation).

One of my dogs ate dry wall off the rental apt when she was 1 year old and briefly left alone in our bedroom (to limit her access to all the stuff in the house while we were gone), another destroyed a whole couch, $500 shoes, knocked my MacBook to the ground costing $600 to repair… the list is endless.

In my experience dogs can take a couple years to chill out (they’re now super normal lol) but they never actually made me angry at them when they did that stuff, I was sad to lose things and and stressed about finances replacing things but I never thought about rehoming.

Luckily I have that experience to draw from now and understand that I’m not in a place to adopt a puppy but I bet most first time dog owners don’t truly “get it”. After the pandemic it’s like everyone feels entitled to a dog.
