Vikings is the worst offender here because it absolutely should've ended with the Siege of Paris arc. Then it would've been some of the best television ever made.

I was hard-core into Supernatural for years, but I stopped watching around season 11. I watched the finale out of curiosity and it was painful.

In my mind the show ended at season 5 and the rest doesn't exist.

i hate merlin so much that it actually pains me in my soul. he's literally the villain of his own show, he's such a little weasel bitch and the lies he comes to live by are just so heinous. justice for morgana and anyone else merlin wronged!! i agree it started cute, but what a swerve to make him such a nasty character

I will argue that X-Files didn't fall THAT far. Like it definitely wasn't as good as it's peak during seasons 1-5 but there were still a lot of gems and even though the mythology went off the rails I still enjoyed it. The newer seasons I will not argue as strongly for lol but those barely count imho.

My vote is The Magicians which I didn't finish because I got spoiled for what happened and I was too annoyed.

I just finished the X-files on a re-watch and the last episode is SO BAD.

[Spoiler (click to open)] in the last 2 minutes, Scully just comes to peace with her kid being shot in the head, because she birthed him but was never his mother (they also very much glossed over the fact that she was essentially raped by cigarette smoking man). And Mulder makes being a dad his whole reason for living even though we’ve had ZERO character growth around this idea of fatherhood at all. And then Scully is miraculously pregnant with Mulder’s baby and everything is ok because she gets a bit weird magic kid and Mulder gets to finally be this dad he’s apparently always wanted to be?? And let’s not forget they are both PRETTY old by this time.

Like they basically just did the messiest and laziest wrap up of plot lines and undid so much of the previous characterisation. In my mind it’s on par with GoT.

Yeah, when it aired I just saw the reactions and then went to read a spoilery summary and thought "Nope, not wasting my time on this one!" Honestly, the revival would have been fine if you cut out all the "My Struggle" episodes - at least they were aptly named because boy are they a struggle to get through. ughhh

and idk about them being 10/10 to 1/10 journeys but definitely a lot of anime i've watched had amazing first seasons and drastically different/bad 2nd seasons. i remember feeling that way about psychopass and tokyo ghoul when i first watched them and that was around the time i stopped keeping up with current shows lol. although there were probably way worse contenders in the 90s/00s but i just had a higher tolerance for anime fuckery back then

oh and duh, i'm struggling to finish the final season of walking dead and it's wild how the first few episodes were so good and it's taken me so long to "catch up" because i can only stomach watching like 4-5 episodes at a time and then i put it off for like a year. which is the point i'm at rn lol, i think i'm done and i'll finish the rest of s11 next year tbh
