Mainly dishonorable reasons like publicity, glory, fake morale and getting favors of influential people. Mostly it devalues the academic degrees of those who actually earned it

I used to work at the Australian Catholic University (despite not being catholic) and they honestly tried to give famous people honorary doctorates EVERY YEAR because it would up their profile.

They literally approached Hugh Jackman all the time and he turned them down, DESPITE having friends who literally worked there (who worked with me in enrolments).

Daisy Wenham, however, did not refuse lmao

(other ppl who got an honorary doctorate from there include Cardinal Pell, so THAT will tell you all you need to know about how much this shit is actually respected.)

Today I learned that I’ve lived my life thinking John Waters was John Carpenter.

For the longest time I thought John Waters wrote and directed HEATHERS and that's not the case. It was written by Daniels Waters so that's probably why I confused it.
