1) surprised it wasn't Lake Lanier. Had to double check location.

2) CrossFit gas always seemed smarmy to me.

This is so tragic and upsetting. All those people around him while he drowns. So preventable.

I literally just finished reading a book last night about "cultish" language (that's the title), and among other orgs it calls out CrossFit as pushing unhealthy and dangerous messages about being EXTREME and pushing yourself way too far to prove you're really part of the group mentality or whatever. There's even a running "joke" about rhabdomyolysis (overworked muscles releasing toxins) being just the price you pay at some point. So this makes me mad and sad and also doesn't surprise me much.

There are like eight people standing right there. Do they not have assigned spotters/lifeguards for something like this? How awful.

I can see how they might have missed something: just looking at that video (and I hate to think we saw the last 3 minutes of a man's life on tv) I wasnt sure where I was supposed to be seeing him at. Whatever procedures they have clearly need retooling.

Swimming shouldn't be last in a -athelon though!

Drowning can be hard to spot, but lifeguards should be trained to see the signs. It seems like they should have changed the event order and hired more people/trained them better.

Of course, they will do the swim last because CrossFit does everything backwards.
