Indie Film Release Guide: July 19th [An ONTD Original]

Jul 18, 2024 09:40

On this weekend one year ago, the cinematic event known as Barbenheimer flooded movie theaters nationwide, prompting endless photos, tweets and memes about watching both Barbie and Oppenheimer in theaters. Both films went on to make boatloads of money and win Oscars. This weekend… twins!! We’ve got twins!! Twisters, an extremely belated follow-up to the 1996 action film, opens opposite basically nothing. Of course, there are plenty of releases from the last few weeks still in theaters, but read on for more options.

The films listed are from studios other than the “Big Five” - Universal Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros., Walt Disney Pictures, and Columbia Pictures. Note that some of the movies listed are in their first week or two of limited release in the USA, so it may take them a few more weeks (or months) to show up in your local arthouse theater or on VOD. Check out the posts from the past few weeks for more movies that may have just opened near you: July 12th, July 5th, and June 28th.
