Swifties will always claim she’s been a positive influence. That’s why she’s a billionaire. This isn’t news.

In Brazil a lot of gay men hate Taylor and call her "the hunchback of notre dame", and I saw a lot of comments from American men about her ass not being big enough. I feel like her body piss off men in general for some reason.

Yeah I had a shitty ex who used to talk about her body too. Maybe something about the fact that she's tall attracts the negative attention from crappy men. (This dude was tall, but insecure anyway!)

shes tall, shes sucessful in pop, yet she doesnt really cater to them in any way. theres nothing about her ebergy that says its for the dudes, even when she dresses up ~sexy its more like a dress up with the girlies party moment. fuck em.

this is one reason i’ve always liked the line “he didn’t like it when i wore high heels / but i do” in begin again… usually idc about the real life backstory of songs but i do like that line better knowing it comes from a woman who is Hella Tall lol

This seems like a very flawed study but I'll have to read more into it. For instance, were researchers able to parse stan language? Also, were they viewing the other comments from users who praised TS? Were they disparaging other artists to elevate her?

Apart from that, this isn't uncommon. There were also spikes in women reaching out about eating disorders after the death of Karen Carpenter and when Princess Diana disclosed her eating disorder.

I was gonna say looking at fan spaces seems like it would very flawed if you don’t actually understand those spaces. Swifies are nice toward Taylor but the second another women is in their warpath to defend Taylor, they have no issue firing any kind of body insults their way.

In general I think talking about eating disorders and body image is overall gonna have a net positive impact but online stan spaces have a long ways to go on this.

Yep, fan spaces are not above racism, classism, and misogyny. And on the flip side, they are quick to weaponize the language of social justice to uplift their fav. I think there should be a study on those spaces but, IMO, it should be focused on what leads someone to viciously go to bat for a person they don't know and likely will never meet.

Calling it a study is a bit of a stretch but then again I haven’t been exposed to non science-y studies. They basically searched Taylor Swift + body image or Taylor Swift + eating disorder and then parsed through the top 100 comments in the top 100 posts.

Also the fact that the authors are big Taylor Swift fans also gives me the side eye.

Link to the study if anyone is interested: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0277953624005537?via%3Dihub
