I just read that 8 out of Katy’s 9 #1 hits were co penned and/or produced by Dr Luke. He has clearly been very pivotal to her success. She’s as linked with him as MJ with Quincy Jones, early Britney to Max Martin, recent Taylor with Jack, etc.

Katy struggled to find success without him with Witness and Smile (tho I’d argue Witness had some good stuff even if the album as a whole was uneven). So now she’s trying to go back to the well to hopefully hit past peaks. Again as to my earlier comment, I’d kind of feel bad that her legacy is so tied to this man - but she’s almost 40 now. She has enough money and clout to go into a different direction at this phase of her career.
