Loved Sunfyre but not crazy about them changing it from the book where it was Aegon and Aemond together vs Rhaenys.

This version just weakens Aegon and Rhaenys' characters IMO.

I see what you mean but I guess that's the creators/writers way of creating more tension and giving the actors more to do, if it was all jolly on the greens team then the characters would seem even more one note and not have many driving force for their actions. Aemond and Aegon have both been given way more to work with emotionally than in the books. They did the same with Viserys and fleshed him out more than the book did, same with Alicent, etc.
I don't remember Rhaenyra's council doubting her so early on in the book, so yeah they also added that conflict for the blacks, conflict and tension makes for great storytelling especially on TV. F&B thou enjoyable was written very flatly.

genuinely dont know why ppl are fighting you on this lol like there are so many points that are literal fact in the book (ie maelor) that are completely disregarded and so many parts that have been conjured up by thin air (aegon/aemond rivalry, rhaenyra dressing up as a septa 💀) idk how anyone can think of this show as the ~official canon lmao. mind you since season 1 grrm has always maintained that the show canon =///= book canon. it’s honestly a glorified fanfic of ryan condal’s. its his interpretation of f&b, which is fine, but i dont see why his choices should be free of criticism

How does it weaken Rhaenys's character? She held her own against two dragons and basically defeated one.
Sunfyre never stood a chance, being smaller and less experienced than Meleys.

In the book she actually fights them both at the same time, and it’s possible she was the one who burned Aegon.

Then came an answering roar. Two more winged shapes appeared: the king astride Sunfyre the Golden, and his brother Aemond upon Vhagar. Criston Cole had sprung his trap, and Rhaenys had come snatching at the bait. Now the teeth closed round her.
Princess Rhaenys made no attempt to flee. With a glad cry and a crack of her whip, she turned Meleys toward the foe. Against Vhagar alone she might have had some chance, but against Vhagar and Sunfyre together, doom was certain. The dragons met violently a thousand feet above the field of battle, as balls of fire burst and blossomed, so bright that men swore later that the sky was full of suns. The crimson jaws of Meleys closed round Sunfyre’s golden neck for a moment, till Vhagar fell upon them from above. All three beasts went spinning toward the ground. They struck the ground so hard that stones fell from the battlements of Rook’s Rest half a league away.

i wish they'd kept this version with all three dragons falling to the ground in a tangle. i really hate the way rhaenyra's death was filmed.

Someone pointed out Sunfyre is probably the only one who loves him. I just can't 😭

That is a fact. Sunfyre is his only solace. I would dare to say Cole also has deep affection for him considering how devastated he was by the end of the episode, but he still betrayed him twice.
