I’m sorry this lady can’t have a baby herself but it still doesn’t give her the right to rent another woman’s womb. No one is entitled to a biological child, no matter how wealthy or desperate you are.

Last paragraph states she already carried her first child.

Okay? She is saying she is turning to surrogacy because she can’t carry ANOTHER baby.

Edit: I may have misread the tone of your comment, if so I apologise for my snarkiness.

Was not meant to be snarky at all, just responding to your comment about her not being able to have a baby herself when in fact she already has.

Those two would have been a hot couple, but did you mean his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness?

You have a child. If you need more children, adopt.

No one "needs" children.

Also, as an aside, adoption is (thankfully) no longer what it used to be. There are something like 1-2M couples looking to adopt in the US, while the number of adoptable children (especially infants, which are considered most desirable) is far, far lower. The response to childless couples (or couples looking to have additional children) can no longer be to adopt. Instead, these people need to start accepting that some things just aren't in the cards for them and make peace with their realities.

this isn’t judgement, like I desperately want to understand: how does a person look at the state of this world and think it would be great to bring a new child into it? I find it especially baffling for those keen to have a second or third child, one I can probably understand. It must be nice to not live with that level of pessimism/anxiety.

No I genuinely feel the same. I honestly feel like bringing a child into a world where its generation is going to face so many challenges related to climate, war, etc. is actually a really selfish thing for parents to do.

Which makes my blood boil even harder when people say “anybody who doesn’t want kids is just too selfish to have them”
